Objective: Create branding for a summer league hockey team called the Pittsburgh Mavericks
Approach: The team wanted a patriotic look to go with the name they chose. I didn't want something that was so overtly patriotic, so I tried going the military route since the the team name is a reference to the Top Gun franchise.
Outcome: The logos are simple and refer to military badges, similar to the Florida Panthers. Subtle details are packed throughout the uniform. For example, each player's last name appears on the front in the style of a name tag and there is a subtle Navy Blue camo pattern throughout the bottom half of the jersey. It was a challenge to walk the line between creating something with a lot of detail and something that was overly busy. In the end, the team was happy with the design and wore it for multiple tournaments during the summer of 2025.
